AHPRA registration

Two clear routes to Australian specialist registration.

Preferred

Expedited Specialist Pathway

Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP), together with a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT). Awarded under any RCGP curriculum from August 2007, following satisfactory completion of a GMC or PMETB-approved GP specialist training programme in the UK.

Alternative

Traditional Specialist Pathway

For applicants who don't meet the expedited criteria: the RACGP Practice Experience Program (Specialist Stream) determines eligibility via a College assessment for a substantially comparable outcome.

Common questions

What UK GPs ask us first.

Am I eligible for the expedited specialist pathway?

Yes, if you hold MRCGP together with a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) awarded under any RCGP curriculum from August 2007. This is the fastest route to AHPRA specialist registration for UK GPs.

What if I don't hold MRCGP + CCT?

The traditional Specialist Pathway (RACGP Practice Experience Program – Specialist Stream) remains an option. Our London consultants will assess your qualifications and outline the route.

How long is the commitment?

RFDS is seeking a minimum two-year commitment for these permanent roles — one Clinical Lead Supervisor and nine GP / Rural Generalist roles.

Can my family come with me?

Yes. Visa sponsorship extends to spouses and dependents, and relocation support is scaled for families. We'll help with schools, housing and settling in.

What about tax and Medicare provider numbers?

You'll need eligibility for a Medicare provider number (covered by AHPRA specialist registration). We'll walk you through the Australian tax basics before you sign.
